Coloured Equestrian Prints
de Nadas (Alex. Nadosij)
An attractive and unusual Album
containing title page and 12 coloured prints (some highlighted
in watercolour) of celebrated horses of Austrian Army, including
“Daniel O’Rourke,”winner of the 1852 Derby, 4to full leather, with
brass clasp,lacks spine. Now in a presentation box. As an Album,
w.a.f.
It was compiled c. 1853 by Alexander Nádosў de Nádas, “Général
et Chambellan de Sa Majesté I. & R.A. d’Autriche” [i.e., General and
Chamberlain to the Emperor Franz Josef]. There is an illuminated
dedication “to my dearest godchild Charlie Rumbold”.
Colonel (later General) Alexander Nádosy de Nádas (1811-1892)
was an officer in the Austrian cavalry service. He was the author
of the standard work
Equitations-Studien
(Vienna, 1854) and was
Chief Rider at the Spanish Riding School in Vienna 1859-1865.
The Rumbold family were baronets seated at Woodhall in
Hertfordshire. It is not certain which is the “Charlie Rumbold” to
whom the volume is dedicated. (1)

drawn and hand coloured Map of Counties Wicklow andWexford,
from Blessington to Wexford Town, andWicklow to Clonegal,
measuring 41cms x 33cms (16” x 13”), single sheet folded. It marks
distances between towns, and gives details of proposed troop
movements. Signed and dated at bottom left hand corner. On
watermarked paper and in excellent condition. As a map, w.a.f.
