A large collection of plant samples, each pinned within a paper folder.
There is a small index volume entitled “Catalogue of the Wild Flowers
collected by Lady Adare, commenced March 1850.”
Viscount Adare was the title borne by the eldest son and heir of the
Earl of Dunraven. In March 1850 it was held by the son of the second
Earl, who had married in 1836 Augusta, daughter of Thomas Goold
of Dublin, a Master in Chancery, and Elizabeth, daughter of the Rev.
Brinsley Nixon, Rector of Painstown, Co. Meath. Augusta was thus
the “Lady Adare”who compiled the collection. In August 1850 she
became Lady Dunraven when her husband succeeded to the earldom.
She died in 1866.
The collection includes several bundles with individual titles, E.G.:

Hecla
., though
the accompanying ship the

Scotland) and Harrogate (a spa town in North Yorkshire), all dated
1849.
