Two Indentures dated 1810 and
1812 by which Robert Fyan of Usher’s Quay,
Dublin, leases property in Kilcock, Co. Kildare,
to John Colgan. The first refers to premises in
Kilcock, the second to “the field opposite the
racecourse”.
Colgan is evidently a developer, as his rent
includes “two fat hens or two shillings” every
Christmas for each tenement he builds on the
premises. He also undertakes not to hinder
the division of the Commons of Kilcock. The
second lease has a manuscript map attached.

Notification
of Keeping Arms,
a group of 6 printed

effect licensing people to carry arms in
Ireland. They relate to Co. Carlow, Fennagh,

Large early 19th Century
Map of Tipperary Townland
Co. Tipperary: Meagher (Martin) Surveyor
Large Map 92cms x 76cms, (36” x 30”), paper
on cloth, entitles
A Map and Survey of the
Townland of Graigue the Estate of John Maher
Esq. of Tullemaine Castle, situated in the Parish
of Moycarkey, Barony of Eliogarty and County
Tipperary.
The map is signed by the surveyor, Martin
Meagher, and dated May 1845. A further
note states that it was made by order of
Robert Prendergast Esq. in 1844, and names
the “boundaries man” as William Fanning of
Graigue.
The map is drawn on a scale of 20 perches
per inch and shows the townland of
Graigue, comprising 592 Irish plantation
acres or 959 statute acres. Its main purpose
is to mark the field boundaries and the
holdings of the 81 tenants, detail of which
are given underneath the map. Buildings
and antiquities are also shown.
An attractive and interesting study of a
Tipperary townland on the eve of the

Early 19th Century Rent Book
- Co. Wexford Estate
Co. Wexford:
A leather-bound folio Volume
containing annual entries of rents paid by
tenants on the estate of the Cornock family
of Cromwell’s Fort in Co. Wexford, 1797-1851.
Cromwell’s Fort near Wexford is a fine house
built in 1783 by Isaac Cornock. He died in
1804 and was succeeded by his only son the
Rev. Zachariah Cornock (1770-1858). In the
mid-19 th century the Cornocks owned an
estate comprising 1,312 acres in Co. Wexford
and 168 acres in Kilkenny.
The family sold Cromwell’s Fort in 1894.
After lying derelict for some years it
was restored and is now divided into
