LIST OF OFFICERS OF THE ROYAL ARTILLERY WITH UNIQUE

M/SS ADDITIONS, 1763-1841 Military interest: A folio entitled List

of Officers of the Royal Regiment of Artillery as they stood in the year

1763, with a continuation to the Present Time Ö (Greenwich, 1815).

Contains lists of officers as of 1763 (the end of the Seven Years War) and

continued down to 1815 (the end of the Napoleonic Wars). Includes

many Irish names. Each entry gives name, dates from promotions from

gentleman cadet to general, and ‘’remarks’’ on the fate of each officer -

whether he died, resigned, retired, transferred, was killed in battle, died

of wounds, died of sickness etc. Many details of deaths in various battles

of the Napoleonic Wars. What makes this copy unique is that its owner,

Zachary Clutterbuck Bayly, has continued the lists with insertions in his

own hand, bringing the total number of names to approximately 1,800.

Bayly was a native of Seend in Wiltshire, joined the RA as a gentleman

cadet in 1802 aged fifteen, and retired with rank of lieutenant colonel

in 1841. An important record of army service at a significant period in
