Famine in Co. Kilkenny: Some correspondence from Lord Frankfort’s

Kilkenny properties, in and near the City. The four letters are to Ld.

Frankforts Solicitors, Stewards & Kincaid in Dublin, and are from Mark

& Robt. Shearman who were his local agents at Keatingstown, from

H.L. Harty & John Brass, dated between December 1844 - April 1848.

An interesting collection, some illustrating the strife encountered by

the people of the area, ‘Money for seed had to be spent on food for the

family, some of whom have already pawned their clothes for food.’ As m/
