Co. Carlow 1845: Three original A.L.s. by James Brennan, Carlow, two

to Joseph Kincard, Solc. for Lord Frankford, & one to Henry Hattan,

Assistant Barrister for the County of Carlow, January 1845. Brennan was

a bailiff, and while trying to remove members of the Coughlin family

from a property, one of them charged him with assault, etc. The letters,

from Carlow Gaol deal with Brennan’s attempts to secure leniency

through ‘influence’, by contacting The Lord Lieutenant, Henry Bruen
