Maurice O’Fihely, known as Mauritius de Portu and Mauritius Hibernicus (c1460-1513) was professor of philosophy at Padua, worked closely with the Venetian printers in editing the works of Scotus and was one of the first Irishmen to engage with the new technology of the printing press. He was appointed Archbishop of Tuam in 1506.
