Carthy approached the President of the I.R.F.U. Mr. Sarsfield Hogan
stating on behalf of the eleven Republic based players that they would
not stand for ‘’God Save the Queen,’’ hence an abbrievated anthem was
played known as ‘’The Salute’’. After the event it was agreed that no
future International Matches would be played at Ravenhill. Ireland beat
Scotland 6-0.
