Hobson was a Quaker from Belfast, was a Veteran I.R.B. member, founder of Na Fianna in Belfast and a pioneer of Sinn Fein and the Volunteers. He fell out with the I.R.B. after backing Redmond’s attitude towards the Volunteers and was out of favour afterwards. After alerting Eoin Mac Neill about the Republicans plans for the Rising, he was captured and held in custody during Easter Week.
