CHATSWORTH SPRING FINE ART SALE 5th & 6th March 2025

17 IMPERFECTIONS NOT STATED PSRA NO: 001687 102. An important early Irish Georgian mahogany Door Relic, with eight carved panels decorated in floral roundels in relief (lacks one panel at base) as is. (1) Ref: Flora Mitchell's 'Vanishing Dublin'. ** Crampton Court This was the unofficial Exchange of Dublin until the 'Commercial Buildings' were opened in 1799. No. 20, 'The Little Dublin Coffee House', provided the Merchants with a meeting place prior to this, and the doors shown in the picture date from 1750. Visitors to Dublin have sought out this romantic old court for the past fifty years or so, and the passages leading to it have been a short cut from the Olympia Theatre to the well known Dolphin Restaurant, used by Dubliners throughout this century. The court has only been pulled down recently, though for the past sixty years it had been sinking into a gradual state of decay. The paneling of the interiors of the houses survived the damp and rigour of the years, and at the time of demolition (1963) the unique door showed few signs of deterioration. One cannot help wondering where these lovely old doors are now. €500-€600 103.
