O’Coileain,’ in gilt letters on upper cover. In excellent condition. (1) *A superb association item, which Collins must have consulted frequently in his successive capacities as Chairman of the Provisional Government, Minister for Finance, and Commander-in-Chief of the Free State Army, before his untimely death on a country road in Co. Cork on 22 August, 1922. Of the utmost rarity, items which can be definitively certified as having belonged to Collins personally are extremely rare, since his lifestyle did not lend itself to accumulation of property. Poster: Political Poster [David Allen & Sons Ld., Dublin & Belfast] Vote for Brown - Clayton - Duggan, Hosey Richards, a satirical cartoon poster depicting Gentleman in suit holding a pack of dogs, each with political subjects on their backs, with a cat on the wall entitled ‘Rate Payer’, ‘If the Leads Break, I’m Finished’, approx. 30” x 40” (76cms x 101cms) As a Poster, w.a.f. (1) * V. rare. Would have been so vulnerable because of its size. €200 - €300 Political Patriot / Religious Banner A large and impressive painted and embroidered Banner , 188cms x 148cms (74" long x 58" wide), headed 'The Sun Bursts Forth [on] Loved / Ireland / And the Harp shall Sound Again,' with a fine painted portrait of an aged white- bearded harper, with wolfhound, Celtic cross and round tower, surrounded by wreaths of shamrocks, and on reverse 'God Save Ireland / Faith and Fatherland,' with painted portrait of Saint Patrick with crook. Signed under the harper, W. O'Grady, Dublin 1884. This impressive item has been in the custody of a Donegal family since its manufacture. The original purpose is not now known, but clearly it was used in community religious/patriotic parades or functions. it is in excellent condition considering its age, with a few minor repairs.
