A rare early 18th Century Legal Printed Petition, The Respondent Mervin’s Case - Merry Perry and John Perry surviving executors of Benjamin Perry (appellants), the document gives a chronological outline from 1665- 1704 detailing ownership of lands, deeds, transfers etc., informative document of land ownership in County Meath in the early 18th Century. Manuscript - AmericanWar: A note dated from Strabane, 26th Feb. 1777, to William Knox, acknowledging 10 men, he sent forward for the use of his Majesty’s 68th Regit. of Foot. The Irish Parliament agreed to sending 4000 of the troops garrisoned in Ireland to America for the war and presumable this led to a recruiting campaign. The resultant vacuum in Ireland was filled by a volunteer defence force under Charlemont which later became a pressure group for Irish liberty. The 68th later became the Durham Light Infantry. Cork Manuscript : Large Indenture on Vellum, two membranes, dated 19 December 1747, between George Newenham of Cork and several members of the Pim family. The marriage settlement of George Newenham and Elizabeth, daughter of John Pim of Edenderry. An early document. As a m/ ss., w.a.f. (1) €150 - €200 788. Wife of The Governor of Hong Kong, 1899 Manuscripts: Two Letters by Edith Blake, wife of Sir Henry Blake, Governor of Hong Kong, 1899. The first letter (page 2 only) was evidently written in January 1899 the second - addressed to a Miss Battersby - is dated 17 March following. Both were written not long after the Blakes’ arrival in Hong Kong, and mention impressions of China, the enjoyment of their new life by their daughter Olive, the arrival of her brother-in-law Frank Blake, the visit of the Prince and Princess of Prussia, an expedition to a Chinese Temple, a review of the troops in the Happy Valley, and a forthcoming dinner in honour of St. Patrick’s Day. Edith, nee Bernal-Osborne, heir to the Newtown Anner estate in Cos. Tipperary andWaterford, had been disinherited after eloping with Blake, a mere police inspector. As things turned out, Blake had a distinguished diplomatic career and Edith became a talented artist. The couple retired to Myrtle Grove House in Youghal. €200 - €300 781 784
