Carlow - 1830’s] Geale (Piers) A large File for ‘Witness Expenses,’ Signed by Crown Solicitor of the Home Circuit of Ireland, They relate to Murder, by Poisoning, Manslaughter, Homicide, Child Murder, each printed document with manuscript notes and signatures, as a File, w.a.f. (1) * Piers Geale lived at 65 Mountjoy Square, Dubin, he was allied with many Noble Families by his daughters’marriages. His house was known as the “House of Lords”. €180 - €220 666. Co. Monaghan: HowMonaghan was Lost and Won, The Play of the Fisherman. A large printed broadside of political skit / sketch, c. 1880,approx. 49.5cms x 37cms (19½” x 14½”) some dam. Framed. Rare. (1) €150 - €200 667. Irish 18th Century Grant for Fair Co. Meath: A Patent for a Fair to be held at Kilmessan, issued 1720, in a legal hand, entirely in Latin, on a vellum sheet. 24 ins x 25 ins, worn but legible. As m/ss., w.a.f. (1) €200 - €300 668. Powerscourt. A London Jeweller’s Receipt to Viscount Powerscourt dated 23 November 1921, for a large Sapphire and fine Diamond brooch valued £2,000, for disposal, with a note in Lord Powerscourt’s hand, ‘Sold to H.M. Queen, for her present to Princess Mary, on the occasion of her wedding to Viscount Lascelles, March 1922.’ - £2,000 in 1921 would of course be a huge sum in current value. As m/ss., w.a.f. CrimeanWars, 1853/1915 A manuscript Document, headed ‘Maurice Wingfield / Arrangements for landing the troops in the Crimea / Every officer in the Fleet to have a copy / Drawn up by Captain W.R. Mends of HMS ‘Agamemnon’, 12 pp, neatly stitched, giving elaborate details for assembly, anchoring off the Enemy’s territory, disembarking the Army, etc., undated, probably 1853; with: Newspaper Reports (neatly laid down) of a Dublin meeting in October 1915, at which Lord Powerscourt ‘gave the audience an account of our landing at Suvla Bay’ [August 1915], titled in his hand. The ‘Enemy’ in 1853 was Russia, whereas in 1915 it was Turkey, then fighting on the German side in WW1. As m/ss., w.a.f. (1) €800 - €1200 671. Daniel Farson, British (1927-1997) Photograph: Noel Coward, The Applecart, Vintage Print, approx. 19cms x 19cms (7½” x 7½”), Signed by Daniel Farson, with label for Birch & Conran, Fine Art, London, framed. (1) €700 - €900 670. Wingfield (Major the Hon. Mervyn Patrick) A collection of about a dozen cards and letters sent to his parents from a prisoner-of-war camp in Italy, 1942-43, on camp stationery, with a few related notes; also a copy letter to his parents from his commanding officer; also a prison ID document in German; a wartime logbook or diary with notes on the Italian armistice 1943, family photos, etc.; also some miniature wartime maps on flimsy paper; also his demobilization documents; also an aluminum spoon used by Major Wingfield during his years as prisoner-of-war; and a large pair of leather boots with wooden soles, in which Major Wingfield walked over 300 miles seeking to rejoin allied forces in Southern Italy after his release when Italy changed sides. (In any event, he was recaptured by the Germans). A most interesting collection. Major Wingfield (son of Viscount Powerscourt) was captured in North Africa, and it was some time before his parents became aware that he was a prisoner of war. As an Archive.
