(1) * The author was born in Oldcastle, Co. Meath, in November 1829. He was educated at Trinity College, Dublin, with the intention of joining the medical profession, but he preferred the law. In his spare time he wrote for the press. He emigrated to America in 1851, and later worked for the Boston Post, & the New York Times. He enlisted in the Army in 1861, at the beginning of the Civil War, and served with various important Generals, including General Hunter, on his expedition to the Shenandoah Valley in the Spring of 1864. €160 - €240 238.
