Austin Stack, from Tralee, was involved in Casement’s unsuccessful attempt to land arms in Kerry prior to the 1916 Rising. A founder member of The Irish Volunteers, formerly a tax inspector in Dingle, he was elected to the First Dail and later became Minister for Home Affairs 1921 - 22. He was a close colleague and supporter of Eamon de Valera, opposed the Treaty, and was imprisoned in 1923, taking part in the hunger strike which severely weakened his health. He died in 1929.
