A Broadside, First Series, 1908-1915, Dun Emer & Cuala Press, 84 issues complete (each issued in 300 copies), in three original Cuala linen portfolios with Yeats coloured vignette (some ties damaged, the vulnerable folding flaps neatly repaired), new paper liners inserted. In a recent heavy folding morocco case, spine & margins gilt, inlays to upper cover. With 252 drawings all by Jack Yeats, many hand-coloured; literary contributors include Masefield, Rhys, Lady Gregory, Seamus O’Sullivan,James Stephens, James Guthrie and probably Jack Yeats himself (under various pseudonyms). Each issue consisted of 4 pp (single folded sheet of heavy paper), including generally two hand coloured drawings on pp. 1-2, with a larger uncoloured drawing on p. 3; rear page blank. A very good clean set, with just a little light foxing on a few numbers. Previous owner’s initials (LMW) on no. 1 only and on one portfolio. A superb compilation, endlessly fascinating, which must have taken a great deal of Yeats’ time. It was discontinued after seven years because wartime conditions interfered with its distribution and sale, and also perhaps because Yeats was exhausted. Each monthly copy was posted to subscribers, with the portfolios supplied separately. Complete sets in original condition are now very hard to find. (1) €6000 - €8000 939. A Full Set in Original Condition 938. The Full Collection in Folding Case
