A postcard (unused) bearing the music and words in French and Russian of the Russian imperial anthem (familiar to anyone who has heard Tchaikovsky’s ‘1812’ overture) with a sheet of Windsor Castle engraved notepaper on which is written the words of the anthem in Russian, three verses, Signed Zhukovsky, 1839, 28 Mai. Zhukovsky was tutor to Grand Duke Alexander Nikolayevich (later Tsar Alexander II), who visitedWindsor for two days in 1839. Mary Spring Rice (later Mrs. Marshall, see above) was at this time a maid-in-waiting to Queen Victoria. A curiosity. €400 - €500 635. Inscribed by the Author Kibran (Kahlil) The Prophet, 12mo, New York, (Alfred A. Knopf ) 1927, Pocket Edition, inscribed on f.e.p., “ For Lady Maud Warrender with the kindest thought of Kahlil Gibran 1927,” further inscription on hf. title, cloth, gilt motif, worn spine. A short ALS on his headed Gad’s Hill notepaper, 1 January 1866, 1 pp, single folded sheet, to a Mr. Charles Edmonds. ‘The engagements of the time of year have caused me to overlook your letter, for which I am extremely sorry. I am not conscious of having made any mistake; but I have no proxy-paper (?) for those schools among my miscellaneous accumulations, nor do I remember to have received one.’ With his usual flamboyant signature. Dickens (Charles) Two original A.L.s. from the Author Charles Dickens, to a Mrs. Winter, dated 29th March, 1855, (1 page), & 13 Nov. 1858 (2 pages) Signed with clear signatures, & an original carte de visite photograph of Dickens at his desk. The first is an offer of a ticket for a box at the Adelphi, stating he may not be there himself, ‘ as I shall be waylaid by household words,’ The other is offering friendship, consolation and sympathy in some misfortune that befell Mrs. Winter.
