(1) €150 - €200 672. ‘The Bomb that Changed theWorld’ A section from the Front Page of the Daily Express newspaper for Tuesday August 7 1945, the day after the first atomic bomb was dropped on the Japanese city of Hiroshima, framed with various documents signed respectively by Thomas W. Ferebee, bombardier on the Enola Gay aircraft that dropped the bomb; Morris Jeppson, bomb test officer, Enola Gay; Paul W. Tibbets, pilot and captain, Enola Gay; Jacob Besser, observer, Enola Gay; and Fred J. Olivi, co- pilot for the separate Nagasaki bombing two days later. Hart Junior (Col. George Luzerne Hart Junior) American Flag on right sleeve and badge for 64th fighter wing on front. As a fabric, w.a.f. (1) * G.L. Out of thisWorld [Space Aviation] Space Shuttle - Orbiter Thermal Insulation Tile - Challenger (OV99) , Tile part number V070-191025-270. The tile is part of the HRSI (high temperature - up to 2300 deg. F. - surface insulation) that protects the Shuttle orbiter during re-entry heating. It is composed of pure silica glass fibres and is 94% air by volume, weighing just 9lb / cu. ft. It is coated with a borosilicate glass (similar to Pyrex) containing silicon tetraboride. This thin hard surface protects the fragile silica base but is very brittle and can be easily damaged by impact or mishandling - one of the constant challenges operationally. The Tile was removed from the Space Shuttle Orbiter “Challenger” (OV 099) on November 30, 1984 as a result of vehicle mold line screed degradation and loss of bond. The degradation was brought about by the necessary repeated waterproofing of the tiles between flights. The waterproofing agent used at that time softened the screed RTV. After the mold line was resurfaced new tiles were built to match the new contour and this tile became excess. It had flown on 6 Challenger flights: STS 6, 7, 8, 10, 11 and 13. Its replacement tile was subsequently lost with the vehicle and crew on Challenger’s 10th flight, STS 51L in January 1986; together with receipt identity. As an Artefact, w.a.f. (1) €1500 - €2000
