L., Elkin Mathews 1903, First Edn., 4to illus. card, with hand-coloured cover drawing and seven full-page plates hand-coloured by Yeats. A rare book in its original state, as many of the drawings were cut out for performance on miniature stages, as intended by the author, or for framing. According to Arnold, the story draws on the memories of Yeats’ Pollexfen ancestors in Sligo, who were merchants and ship-owners. An excellent copy. D. 1938, 4to, illus. d.w., First Edn., thus, illus. with four tipped in coloured plates and line drawings, this copy signed and dated May 11 1943 by Yeats, and with a signed sketch on rear of f.f.e.p. of a horse throwing off the traces and galloping away from his driver, dated February 18 1944 (i.e. the owner came back a second time for the sketch), also Signed and inscribed on hf. title ‘ Do Monsieur Lestocquoy, Le gach dearg-ghide Maírín Ní Chrigáin, green cloth, decor. d.j.
