(1) * The 1st Lord Clonbrock paid Mr. Moore £6 16s 6d for inlaid tables - (in the plural). In his forward to Christie’s catalogue for the Clonbrock sale, in 1976, the Knight of Glin stated that this table, which was retained by the family, was certainly one of these. He also pointed out that another is likely to have been Lo 118 in the sale but there is no way of telling how many tables Clonbrock purchased in 1789.
No document furniture by Moore is known to survive beyond the pieces recorded in the Clonbrock archive. However, a small number of items have been attributed to him on the basis of a single commode made for the third Duke of Portland, who served as Lord Lieutenant of Ireland in 1782. This piece features an ivory plaque identifying Moore as its maker. A closely comparable commode is held in the V & A [W.56:1-3-1925], and other similar commodes and pier tables have appeared on the market periodically (see Glin & Peill, 2007, figs. 220-25; Furniture History Society).
