An important Georgian period heavy silver crestedWine Cooler, with gadroon edge above double sided crest in relief with motto ‘Virtus Probata Fortue’ (success follows Bravery) with loop handles and ornate lion head relief supports on a stepped circular base, hallmarked London, by Thomas Robins, c.1809, approx. 115 ounces. (1) * The coat of arms has been identified as that of James Bernard, second Earl of Bandon DCL FRS (b. 1785, succ. 1830, d. 1856) and his wife (m. 1809), Mary Susan (d. 1870), daughter of the Most Rev. and Hon. Charles Brodrick DD, Archbishop of Cashel, third son of George, third Viscount Midleton, dates between 1830 (when he succeeded to the earldom) and his death in 1856, but might date from the period of her widowhood, 1856-1870. €3000 - €4000
