Tipperary: A manuscript “ Account Book,” containing receipts paid to George Gough and Richard Gason, executors of Col. RichardWaller (of Castle Waller, Co. Tipperary), 30th Oct. 1758 to 29th Jan. 1762, approx. 40pp, 8vo (oblong entries). With a later note, inserted, to Mr. Going, Coole Abbey, 1908, from Stephen Gordon, notary public, Dublin, sewn. A lot of different names, mostly for lettings etc., but one receipt ‘for 7 barrels of ale, & the carriage of ‘em, used at the funeral.’ As a m/ss., sewn, w.a.f. (1) €200 - €300 698. Henry Irving’s invitation to the performance of “Faust” at the LyceumTheatre Note, on headed paper and dated 4 March 1887, in the hand of Henry Irving, actor-manager of the Lyceum Theatre, London, written to accompany a ticket for a box for the performance of “Faust”. Irving was then at the height of his career, and his direction of “Faust”was one of his most stunning successes. Performed over three years 1885-1888, it starred Irving as Mephistopheles and Ellen Terry as Margaret; George Alexander’s performance as Faust launched his career as an actor of major importance. Tipperary: A manuscript Volume containing Record of monthly meetings from 19 Nov. 1917 to 10 June 1918. Anticipating the end of the Great War, prominent citizens of the town prepared to organise the development of existing industries and to attract new ones. An important record of local enterprise at a time when attention was mainly focused on political issues. A good social record. As a manuscript, w.a.f. (1) €300 - €400 700. Coombe Hospital Record, 1892 Dublin Interest: Intern Pupils’ address book, 1892, containing the names, qualifications and addresses of students at this Dublin teaching hospital. 5 pp (the rest blank), with 26 names. Signed Proposals from suppliers for provision to Carlow Jail, Best Dublin soap, best Buttermilk, best new milk, rape oil, linseed oil, sweet oil, drying oil, oatmeal, potatoes, brushes with handles. etc. Some were signed by members of the Board of Governors. As a File., w.a.f. (1) €200 - €300 702. Civil War 1922 [Carlow] Death of a Carlow Free State Soldier described in a Letter, dated 8th December 1922, from J.W. Riordan, Ballymakeera , Co. Cork. The soldier, Tom Nolan was from Carlow he was with his battalion when they occupied the village of Ballymakeera. He was killed in action when the town was re-taken by the anti- Treaty forces in December 1922. The letter states “ he received holy communion on the First Friday ( 1st Dec. ) and had the priest soon after being wounded - we were all very sorry - as he was a great favourite with everybody’. The letter is accompanied by newspaper clippings, forms and a letter from the Military Barracks, signed by [ ? ]. L. Cosgrave, Lt. Comdt. Also included is an account by Brother P. J. Kavanagh of the occupation and subsequent battle. (1) €150 - €200 703. Taster of Butter in Carlow Co. Carlow: Dated 8th July 1813. “ I Edward Brennan of Leighlin Bridge in the County of Carlow, Yeoman, do Swear that I will diligently and faithfully Execute the office of Taster of Butter” Signed by Edward Brennan and magistrate John Stewart of Stewart Lodge. With testimonials given by William Treacy of Ballyknockan and John Shirley of Knockabranna and signed by them both, With Penny Farthing attached. As a m/ss., w.a.f. (1) €150 - €200 704. Visitation of Ossory Diocese, c. 1731 Tenison (Edward) Bishop 1731-1735 Visitation of the Diocese of Ossory, carried out by Edward Tenison (Bishop 1731-1735), arranged by deanery and containing 201 entries, listing for each parish the names of the clergy and in some cases other officials, with some extra notes. MS, folio, in Latin, 23 pp. Episcopal visitations were surveys carried out in order to enable the bishop to form a detailed picture of the structure of his diocese. The original records were destroyed with other archives of the Church of Ireland in the Four Courts in 1922 – so the survival of this document is of especial significance. (1) €350 - €500 698 703
