He wrote ‘ Ten Days that Shook the World,’ about the 1917 October Russian Revolution. He died of typhus in 1920, and is the only American to be buried within the walls of the Kremlin. Louise Bryant later marriedWilliam C. Bullitt, First American Ambassador to Russia in 1933-36, and later from 1936 to France. He was credited as having saved Paris from bombing by the Germans. He and Bryant eventually split up acrimoniously, maybe the reason for removing his bookplate from her copy of the Reed Book.
