The book deals with the internal problems of America, the threats from without, and what must be done about them. James StromThurmond (1902 - 2003) served for 48 years as Senator for South Carolina, the only congressman to have reached the age of 100 while still in o ffi ce. His career was marked by controversy: a vehement segregationist, in 1964 he changed from Democrat to Republican because of his opposition to the Civil Rights Bill.
