Publisher’s olive-green fi ne-grained cloth, covers with rule and cable decorations in blind, spine with title and author’s name in gilt. Plain light yellow e.p’s. A well-read copy, covers worn and faded, some light foxing but the plates in excellent condition. The Hyde family copy , with bookplate of Douglas Hyde (co-founder of the Gaelic League and fi rst President of Ireland), and with the signature of his mother Bessie Hyde on f.f.e.p., ‘From her a ff [ectiona]te A. Hyde, August 11 1873’, and further signed on t.p. Laid in is a copy of the Gaelic League Constitution dated October 1896, with markings in Hyde’s usual blue pencil, highlighting statements of the League’s non-political and non-sectarian nature (which was challenged by Republican elements circa 1915).
