Pilgrimage to the Holy Land by Austin Stack’sWidow [Stack (Mrs. W.)] Diary of a Trip to Holy Land , written on CunardWhite Star Lancastria notepaper and envelope, 21cms x 13 cms, pp 1-13. Narrates the visit of a group of pilgrims to Mount Carmel, Galilee and Jerusalem, breaking off when they are about to depart for Jericho. The year is not stated, but it must have been after Stack’s death in 1929 and before the outbreak of World War Two (the Lancastria was sunk in 1940 with thousands of fatalities - the largest single-ship loss of life in British maritime history). Card of Mrs Austin Stack enclosed. The Kerry republican leader Austin Stack married in 1925 Winifred (Una) Gordon, née Cassidy, the widow of an RIC district inspector. She died in 1950. Ryan, stating that he was commenced settling his accounts with the estate of “Furlong,” and concluding: “I send by the same steamer a copy of my Political History to be delivered as directed...” Jabez Delano Hammond (1778-1855) was a doctor, lawyer and politician. he was the author of several books, the one mentioned here being his Political History of the State of New York from January 1 1841 to January 1 1847., as a m/ss, w.a.f. Carlow: Indenture dated 28 Jan 1802 whereby the Bishop (Euseby Cleaver), Dean (Stewart Blacker) and Chapter of Leighlin grant the tithe of the parish of Old Leighlin (Co. Carlow) to Thomas Mercer Vigors. he is to hold them for 21 years, paying annually £20 to the bishop and £20 to the dean. Several signatures, and seal of Vigors. M/ss on paper, folio. Vigors (1775-1850) was curate of Leighlin and subsequently rector of Powerstown. he married I 1810 Anne, daughter of Rev. Galway: Rules to be observed by the Birmingham Hunt, A large manuscript poster type document, outlining the rules, cost of membership & listing approx. 42 gentlemen including Wm. & John Birmingham, Denis and Dominic Daly, five members of the Kirwin family, five Blakes, The Earl of Louth, Lord St. Lawrence, others include various members of the French’s, the Burke’s, the Bodkins, Lynch’s & Mahon’s and others. A single sheet, approx. 18” x 12” (46cms x 30cms), no date (c. 1800), paper watermarked ‘R. Nun’. Unique item. V. Rare. (1) €350 - €500 629. Kavanagh (Arthur Mc Murrough) 1873, on the headed Notepaper of his yacht the Eva with stamped logo of The Royal Yacht Squadron, a three page Letter from the pen of the incredible Arthur McMurrough Kavanagh, M.P. born without arms or legs, Arthur served as Member of Parliament for fourteen years, travelled to Russia, India and Persia on safari, was an expert horseman and shot, and was a keen yachtsman. This letter addressed to his land agent “Devine”who it appears has sought a Publican’s licence for himself. The letter expresses Arthur’s concern over the issuing of pub licences in Borris, stating his objection’ to increasing the number of Publican’s licences in the town.’ The letter ends with the message from Arthur to his land agent ‘ it is only for me to say that you would have to choose between it and the position you now hold, as a m/ss, w.a.f. Wexford: A m/ss of George, Viscount Townsend, Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, dated 6 May 11th of George III (1771) to the sheriff of Co. Wexford, directing him to command Joseph Rogers of New Ross to surrender to Hill Matthews of Dublin various pieces of property (details given) in New Ross. Signed “FitzRoy.” Endorsement signed by the Lord Chancellor, Lord Lifford, as a m/ss., w.a.f. (1) €250 - €350
